La Festa Primavera 2016

Report

【Day3】17 Apr 2016

Finally enters its latter stage. It is crunch time for both entrants and cars

La Festa Primavera 2016 finally entered its latter stage. Day three, April 17, the event took place on a course of approximately 290 km from Kyoto to Hyogo and back to Kyoto. Although the travel distance is short compared to day two, the strain of traveling begins to tell on the entrants in this stage. Competition results are important to the entrants of course, however, they need to focus on completing the rally first of all.

Day three, unlike yesterday's fine weather, it was starting to rain in the morning. Since the weather was likely to be fine in the afternoon, according to the forecast, the rally started 30 minutes late. The entrants, who had checked the weather for the day, prepared for the rally under the rainy weather on the night, attaching a convertible top on their car, preparing waterproof clothes.

The route included many winding roads among mountains and the bad weather made it really hard to run on such roads. It was raining relentlessly on a car without a top. The bad weather lasted until around noon, which would have sapped the entrants' energy. The sky was gradually brightening and cleared up in the afternoon, moreover, the temperature was getting higher. It was a really tough day for the entrants as well as the cars.

Since it was Sunday, there were many spectators cheering for the entrants at each spot and on the route despite the rain. The cheers must have really encouraged the entrants. Local people warmly welcomed them wherever they went, which became an unforgettable experience for the entrants.

Unfortunately, some cars dropped out of the rally in the latter stage. It is crunch time for mechanics too. They are struggling to get a car working, maintaining not only the car that they are in charge of but also other teams' cars. They are hoping all participating cars will reach to the goal safely.

Day four, the final day, the entrants will start from Kyoto, passing through Shiga, heading to Fukui. After that, they will go through Shiga again and cross the finish line at the Kyoto City Office.
